I have the navigon and Tom Tom apps. I got the garmin too. I have only used it a couple of times but what I can say is, it seems to download the entire map at the beginning of the trip (when you most likely had coverage).
Yesterday I was using it in a place that just started construction and the directions took me on the detour! I like the garmin plus the included free traffic works well.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but the screen has a blueish tint, which means OLED

We can only dream, I think 2012 is year early. The iPhone however MUST have AMOLED in 2013, at least then we can get the wow factor back after the retina display.

I don't think it needs 5 years, the hardware is already powerful enough to handle image editing and sorting it just needs a well designed app and someway of assessing wireless storage.

Don't think just hardware though - Even though the hardware will continue to evolve, the software has a long way to go as well. They have really been making some great strides lately but still have much to do.

In addition, people's usage habits will continue to evolve. My Mom doesn't do much more than email, web, word processing and photo browsing. Does she really need a big box to do that? I see a tablet sitting in a dock connected to a keyboard/mouse and possibly an external monitor. Works just as well as that big box. Then she can pick it up and use it as a tablet when she doesn't need the keyboard.

All the pieces are falling into place but I have to agree that five years is a pretty good timeline. In ten things are really going to get interesting. ;)

I'm a huge Apple fan, but the 3G/S were terrible design, you can like a company and still criticize it, how else will they know something is wrong?

You cannot simply go "oh we are spending more money than we have, lets just go get more money" or "what do we want to do? let's get the money to do it" and expect to keep a balanced budget. Because the next time you have the problem, you'll do the same thing. This obviously is not repeatable indefinitely. And nobody said it was, or that you should repeat it indefinitely. But you can't expect people to get on board with severe cuts -- especially the ones they're now talking about to Medicare, Medicaid and SS -- if you're still overspending on defense, tax cuts for the rich, and corporate loopholes.

The way to keep a balanced budget does not change when you are the government as compared with individual. It's about not spending more than you have and then finding ways to get more money. It's about spending money on things which are necessary, not merely wanted. The government funds plenty of things, like libraries and parks, that aren't "necessary" but wanted. In the end it's all about how much we're willing to pay for. What's odd is that you see the middle class wanting to keep many of those services; it's the rich and the corporations that are screaming bloody murder about them.

Hope the new 360 is RROD-proof.

RRoD is for "general hardware failure" - no electronics are 100% safe from hardware failure. There'll no doubt still be some cases of the RRoD, but how bad it will be in comparison to the 'legacy' 360 is what we have to wait for.

It's kind of an ugly design. It screams of somebody trying too hard to make it look pretty. And seriously they're just now including built in wifi?

Yeah, it honestly looks like a hybrid between the old 360, the old fatty PS3 and the Wii - it has the 360's weird concave curves (albeit sharper and uglier), the fatty PS3's glossiness and touch sensitive power/eject buttons (who wants to bet MSFT was waiting for Sony to take this out of the slim PS3 before implementing it in the 360?), not to mention it also looks kind of like a black Wii that someone has taken to with a baseball bat.

You could do a whois search and see where the DNS records point to and perhaps there is a Technical Contact showing the company name/address.

    In terminal - 'whois yoursite.com'

    EDIT: Ah beat to it.

    Here's my theory:

    Amazon noticed Mac OS X 10.0., 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.6 shipped on C/DVD and assumed 10.7 would be the same.

Meanwhile in Cupertino Apple has either yet to decide, or are weighing up a number of options

I guess they will provide two options:
[1] A flash Drives in the retail packaging.
[2] Mac App Store download for Snow Leopard owners.

USB sticks are too expensive and take too much time to duplicate "en masse". DVDs are very cheaper and take few seconds to duplicate if even that since they are being pressed (not burned in the case of mass duplication). USB sticks are also more expensive.

It doesn't make sense to go to a USB only distribution model, at least from a cost basis. As for Mac App Store... meh... why not do downloads outside of the Mac App Store, I don't want to use that POS. I've been installing OSes from HTTP and FTP since the mid-90s, no need for a "Mac App Store" to do it. What happens if I don't have a 10.6 or 10.7 installation going and just want to wipe the computer ? Linux has been doing network installs from nothing. Upon purchase, just provide a USB thumb-drive image I can put on any 1 GB thumb-drive to boot into the installer where I put in my purchase code or something. No need for the "Mac App Store".

How can that be interpreted about web content ?

    Dude, seriously, it's $499. That's $100 more than a crappy netbook ...

...that has a proper keyboard. A larger screen. A 160 or maybe 250 or even 500 gb hard drive. multiple USB ports, vga and maybe even HDMI. Can multitask, run the Office apps the business world actually uses, play any movie format including HD content, DIvx, H264 etc, browse the web with Safari. Or Firfox. Or Opera. With flash...that works.

Compared to a 'Crappy' netbook, even the cheap iPad is very expensive.

I may very well get one, entirely depending on how well it plays video, and how well it manages and displays PDF's. But lets not pretend it's cheap, or even reasonably priced, compared to Netbooks.

This girl must have you star-struck, eh? Sending messages over to other computers in the apple store is difficult. They always have these odd names for ichat/bonjour services, so it's not likely you'll be able to do this on your first try. You could be sending a message to another GUY somwhere in the store for all you know.
    <snip>
Course, you could always go with chloriphorm if all else fails.

nevermind... those were examples, nothing more. if thats what you commented on in my post, forget it. Its falling on deaf ears :D Through your post you go onto say "she can look me up" or whatever... I got news for you... you are looking for ways to talk to her remember? I can bet one thing right now that shes NOT doing... thinking of ways to talk to you. Please dont take offense to that, its just generally something women dont have to do.

You want her? Go get her! Don't hide behind "i dont care" because the fact is you do, and deep down you would be pissed if she started dating someone besides you... SELF CONFIDENCE! thats what i hear time and time again :D

That is just it, I have no idea if she that hot because I hardly know her, and physical appearance only goes so far. As far as hiding behind "i dont care" as steeleclipse mentioned, I am not hiding behind it, I am stating a true fact, which myself of all people should realize to be true. If I go there again I am not going to avoid her, I would hope she doesn't feel the urge to avoid me considering I haven't done anything to her, and frankly shopping doesn't require purchases, so I shouldn't be forced to only enter the store when I have a need to purchase, I like to browse. I would not at all be pissed if she dated someone else, for all I know she could be right now and that is great for her. I simply thought she was an attractive and interesting person, and since I have a poor history of initiating contact with women I like, I thought I would ask around. I guess my purpose didn't quite filter in to all of your understandings :p

steeleclipse, I read all of what you were typing, not just the IM portion however that was interesting from a how would one do this? aspect, it was not the focus of my response, only the first paragraph. I don't take offense to much, this is no exception so no worries on that front. The comment about she can look me up still seems valid in my mind, solely because if she was interested, she can look me up if she was really curious. I realize that women are not required to do so as men commonly are (retarded rule in my opinion) however I am not forcing anything on her, I was just stating a fact.

Okay, nevermind, I am tired but going to the gym regardless. I'll swing by the chemistry labs and try to make/mix/take some chloroform, just to give me some future options

    <snip>

wow. that sounds pretty bad. but i 'think' your experience is isolated, or at least represents only a small portion of XP users, proper XP users.

let me tell you my story with M$ to give you the idea why i'm quite appreciative of XP.
i started with 3.1, on to 95, 98, 2000, ME (what were they smoking), etc... i've been living on computers all my life and folowed M$'s development (or lack of - for that matter).
my nightmares was very evident on 98. nothing worked and i had to do everything manually. good thing i was quite patient and know what i'm doing. but after 2 years of W98-SE on a P3 750, 40GB hdd and 512MB ram and 32MB Riva TNT2 (i'm always a step behind, i'm not made of money.. :p), it's staring to go bad, like a plate of food that slowly rots away. at the end, my computing experience with 98 is as follows: 1 out of 5 boot tries will succeed (not just stuck on the startup screen). 1 out of 5 of those succesfull boot ups wil allow me to use the computer, instead of crashing as soon as i move the mouse, which brings me back to trying to get the computer to start for me.

i was sick of it and my friend easily talked me into installing XP after i persisted not to for over 3 months since release. i did a clean install after backing up my data and it worked like a charm. it's been two years now and my computer's been doing great, i only have to restart it every month or so, sometimes i can go two months without restarting. but the past couple of months, as the plate's rotting away, i have to restart every 3 days or so. to avoid a system crash. thankfully, it's just a freeze-up and no data is lost during these periodic crashes (knock on wood). other than the 3 day crash thing, it's never given me problems. so i'm quite satisfied. my appreciation might have come from using a better OS after the 98 hell, but i think XP is in itself a good OS, not the best, but good enough. for now at least. :) ;)
